The past 12 months have seen some pretty major changes in my life, and my hair is no different. After telling my sister for the umpteenth time how much I love the whole pastel hair change, she decided enough was enough, and off we went to Sally’s.
Back at home, armed with a range of powders and potions, we googled DIY hair bleaching, until our heads span, and we realised that no one on the internet can agree on anything, everyone thinks they’re right, and anyone who says otherwise is an idiot.
And so we jumped in. Over a week, my sister became my stylist, and I went from dark brown to orange and finally to a blonde that I was happy to go out of the house sporting. Deciding not to put my hair through anymore pain for a while, I staying blonde, and actually really loved it. To the point where I was considering giving up my candy coloured dreams.
But, I said to myself, you’ve come this far. You can’t stop now. And so pink I went. Pretty little girly, candy floss pink. And I loved it. I didn’t even care if anyone else liked it. I loved it.
Now, I wouldn’t consider myself to be particularly high maintenance in the beauty department. My skincare routine often consists of a good scrub with a face wipe. So this whole endeavour into candy mountain was a huge adventure. And therefore a huge amount of work. With big risks (my hair falling out).
So after a while, a let the pink wash out, and just went back to blonde, and worked on getting the blonde blonder and the health healthier. It had already started to break in places, and I had a few tufts that I’d prefer not to have.
So where does that leave me on my hairventure? Well, a lot poorer, that’s for sure. It is super expensive to upkeep, whilst maintaining any kind of hair quality, rather than a frizzy, dry hay bale.
My journey in the world of blondes has been a fun one, but I think I’m ready to return to my roots. Currently, I’m honey coloured, waiting for the bleach to grow out. And so the journey continues.
And the question on everybody’s lips: do blondes have more fun? That would be telling!
